São Paulo Police Create Child Predator Registry, the First in Brazil

São Paulo Civil Police are putting together an unprecedented database to include all pedophiles in the state. The 4th Pedophilia Repression Police Department is in charge of the work, the only one in Brazil specializing in this type of crime.

Unknown to the public, this police department, established in November 2011, has since registered sexual predators photo, name, skin color, age and crime background.

According to police, 40% of these offenders are between the ages of 18 and 40, 25% are over 40 and 35% are under 17 years.
The number of pedophiles who have a relationship with the victim reaches 40%.The other 60%, have some relationship with the victim's family or are friends or neighbors, according to the assistant of the police chief Ana Paula Rodrigues, 38.

The police are not allowed to inform the total number of registered pedophiles. Among the victims, 80% are girls and 60% are between 7-13 years of age.
The police department alert: pedophiles are proliferating on the Internet.

Pedophilia is a crime punishable with eight to 15 years of imprisonment. Committing the crime on the Internet gives a sentence from three to six years of imprisonment.
