MACHADO DA COSTA
FROM BRASÍLIA

The president of AES Brasil and energy distributor Eletropaulo, Britaldo Soares, left his post this Wednesday (17). The Folha learned that the reason behind the departure was his opposition to the sale of companies belonging to the American group in the country.

The group even put Eletropaulo up for sale, the company that distributes energy to the Greater São Paulo area and is the largest provider in the country, and AES SUL, which provides electricity to the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Two executives close to the group's board of directors confirmed the intention to sell the distributors and said they even have potential buyers. The Folha learned that they are moving ahead in talks with two groups in particular, a Chinese one and a Brazilian one.

The companies that will be sold belong to the holding companies AES Brasil and BNDES, which owns 53.85% of the total shares, but one less than the controlling company, which gives the American company the power to make the decision.

The same executives said the bank is also interested in the sale.

The Venezuelan Julian Nebreda, an executive from the American parent company who specializes in business restructuring, was selected to assume the executive presidency of the group.

The former executive of the Charles Lenzi group, who recently served as president of Abragel (Brazilian Association for the Generation of Clean Energy) will assume leadership over the distributors Eletropaulo and AES Sul.

The press advisory council for the group denies that it is selling assets in Brazil and said the change reflects the group's strategy.
