On Sunday morning (21), a megaoperation carried out by the Military Police led to the removal of drug users as well as drug dealer arrests in a popular drug trafficking area of Crackland, in the central region of São Paulo (where crack cocaine has been sold and consumed freely for years).
The action, however, spread the problem throughout the region and revealed a "cold war" between the administrations of governor Geraldo Alckmin and Mayor João Doria.
While the governor was reserved, calling it a first step, the mayor declared the end of Cracolândia, which has existed for decades, with failed elimination attempts. "Cracolândia has reached its end, never to be seen again," says Doria.
