Santos Football Club's most iconic object - the medal awarded to players after winning the club's second world title in 1963, may now help pay for the former player's Alzheimer treatment.
Dalmo, 82, was the one who scored 1-0 over Milan that earned the title.
The gold medal is on sale by the former left-back's daughter, Ana Paula Gaspar, for US$5,700, even though it had been assessed by a specialist that gave it a US$8,000 evaluation.
Today, Dalmo's treatment generates monthly expenses of around US$1,150, which includes medication, private health care and even a carer.
Nevertheless, these costs may increase to almost US$2,700.
Dalmo's doctors have suggested that the former player be admitted to a clinic for treatment. The monthly cost would increase by US$1,400.
He was Santos's left-back from 1957 to 1964 and played with Pelé, Coutinho, Dorval, Pepe, Zito, Mengálvio, Gilmar, amongst others.
Dalmo took part in winning both the world title and the Libertadores title, in 1962/1963.
The medal is the biggest symbol of Santos's golden time. It is Dalmo's greatest treasure. He gave it to his daughter as a present and told her to use it if she ever faced a difficulty.
Today, she decided to use it to help her father, according to Dalmo's wife, Rosa.
Member of the Santos Veteran Association intend to announce the auction of a shirt, signed by a number of the club's idols to help Dalmo's family.
