Brazilians involved in the FIFA corruption scandal will be investigated in Brazil for tax evasion. The Federal Police have found evidence that show that sports officials and businessmen of the country sent embezzled money abroad illegally.
The investigation will be led by the Brazilian Federal Police, with the participation of federal prosecutors.
Minister Jose Eduardo Cardozo, of the Ministry of Justice, has discussed details about the involvement of Brazilian authorities in the scandal with the Attorney General of the Republic, Rodrigo Janot, to identify crimes that might be represented in Brazilian law.
The material seized by the Federal Police on Wednesday, May 27th, at the headquarters of Klefer, a sports marketing company owned by Kleber Leite, should be used in the decision. Brazilian investigators can only use these documents after the approval by the US Justice. A request has already been made to the Americans.
Sources accompanying the preliminary investigation say that there is already evidence of evasion in Brazil on the behalf of the investigated.
