MARCEL RIZZO
FROM SÃO PAULO

Marco Polo Del Nero is best known as president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), the organization that runs Brazilian football.

What few people know, at least so far, is that the head of the CBF is also in charge of the Local Organizing Committee for the 2014 World Cup (this overlap of positions is not illegal).

Almost 15 months after Germany beat Argentina in the World Cup final, in Brazil, the company set up in 2008 to coordinate the event is still active with employees and office.

In April 17 2015, Del Nero - who a day earlier became president of the CBF replacing José Maria Marin - also took his position as partner and chief executive officer of the company. According to the company's social contract, he is entitled to a monthly salary.

As published by Folha's columnist Juca Kfouri, the salary in 2012 was worth US$ 27,500 (R$ 110,000) per month.

Questioned four times over the last few days if he still receives it, Del Nero did not respond.

The Committee's budget was 100% provided by Fifa in order to pay employees, marketing and transportation, among others.

According to Fifa, US$ 453 million (R$ 1.8 billion, at current exchange rate) were given to the Committee from June 2008, when it was created, to December 2014.

Del Nero took over a company that today has a limited bureaucratic role and is in the process of dissolution, according to the Committee's Legal Department.

The social contract determines the company must be "dissolved and liquidated" in up to 18 months after the World Cup final or January 12, 2016.
