New Coach of Brazilian National Team Says That He Draws His Inspiration from the 1982 World Cup Team

New national coach Tite is a fan of Telê Santana and of the generation that lost the 1982 World Cup.

At his official presentation on Monday the 20th as Coach for the team, the former Corinthians coach was emphatic in outlining how he plans to tactically scale the team and cited the creative mid-field made up of Falcão, Cerezo, Sócrates and Zico that played in the 1982 World Cup in Spain as an example.

His statements have drawn a lot of attention as indicating a shift in the team's direction, which had been led by Dunga until now.

The former three-time-champion team captain doesn't hide the fact that he was always in favor of a winning orientation for the national team and considered himself to be a rival of the celebrated 1982 generation.

Tite said that he had no problem accepting the invitation form Marco Polo Del Nero, the CBF President, even though he himself had signed a petition requesting the immediate resignation of the official, who has been indicted by the FBI on charges of benefiting from a corruption scheme involving the sale of championship rights.

Tite was contracted to get the team out from under crisis. After the embarrassment of the 2014 World Cup, the team hasn't found a way back to victory, and has lost two Copa America and is excluded from classification in 2018 in Russia.

Last week Dunga was removed after the team was eliminated in the first phase of the Copa America Centenario.

Tite's debut as coach will be against Ecuador in September, most likely in Quito. "Of course there is the risk [of being declassified from the Cup]. This is a fact", he said, although he seems confident of being classified.
