FROM SAO PAULO
For the first time in its history, Fifa is deliberating over whether to fine the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) for the homophobic actions of Brazilian football fans.
On September 6, in a qualifier for the 2016 cup played by Brazil and Colombia, hordes of people in the Amazonia Stadium, in Manaus, were heard shouting "faggot" when the Colombian goal-keeper Ospina went to save a ball.
Fifa confirmed to Folha that on the decision of its representatives, also present in the stadium, it has decided to open a "disciplinary action" into the matter.
The circumstances will be analysed by the organisation's Disciplinary Committee, and a final decision, about whether or not to punish the CBF, will be reached.
The group have meetings scheduled for the next two weeks, but it is still to be confirmed whether this item will make the agenda.
Since the beginning of the year, Uruguay and Mexico have also been fined for homophobic slurs against the Colombian goalie.
Fines vary between R$20,000 (US$ 6,000) for Peru and Chile and R$75,000 (US$ 22,700) for Argentina and Mexico.
