Federal Police and Prosecutor's Office Investigate Bolsonaro in Vaccine Bribery Case
The president said that 'prevarication applies to public servants, not me'
The Federal Police opened an inquiry to investigate Jair Bolsonaro on suspicion of misconduct in the negotiation to purchase the Indian vaccine Covaxin.
The investigation stems from statements by congressman Luis Miranda (DEM-DF). He said he had warned the president about irregularities in the negotiations and about the pressure that his brother, a Ministry of Health servant, had been subjected to.
The Attorney General's Office requested the investigation after the Federal Supreme Court justice Rosa Weber allowed three senators to present the crime report to the court.
"First, I understand that misconduct applies to public servants, so it would not apply to me. But with any accusations of corruption I will take action," said Bolsonaro.
Also, on Monday (12), the Federal District Attorney's Office opened a preliminary investigation into the alleged request for bribes by Roberto Ferreira Dias, former director of Logistics at the Ministry of Health.
Luiz Paulo Dominghetti Pereira, who works for Davati Medical Supply, told Folha that Dias offered him US$ 1 per dose to close the contract.
