Rio City Hall Restricts Leisure Because of Coronavirus, but Keeps Beaches Open
City has queue of almost 500 people for beds in the public health network
The city of Rio de Janeiro, in a joint decision with the state government, announced on Thursday (10) new restrictions to try to contain the advancement of coronavirus in the capital - without, however, imposing tougher measures previously adopted, such as the prohibition on going to the beaches.
In recent weeks, in the face of a rapid increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 and the queue for beds, the Rio authorities have insisted that the yet to be delivered mass testing, the monitoring of events and the opening of beds will be sufficient to contain the pandemic.
Among the announcements, this Thursday is the ban on the use of common leisure areas in condominiums, such as saunas and swimming pools, and parking on the waterfront on weekends and holidays.
