FROM RIO

A 16-year-old girl who was allegedly gang-raped testified to Rio's Civil Police on the morning of Thursday (May 26).

Police are investigating a report that the teenager was gang-raped by 30 men on the Morro do Barão in the district of Jacarepaguá, in Rio's West zone.

After giving her testimony the teenager was examined in a public hospital and received a cocktail of medications against possible sexually transmitted diseases.

She told "O Globo" newspaper: "When I woke up there were 33 guys on top of me. I just want to go home."

A video of less than a minute's length is circulating on social media showing the victim naked, wounded and unconscious. In it, a group of men laugh and say that the teenager was raped by "more than 30 men".

"This is the famous slut from Barão", says one man on the video as he films the girl lying unconscious. "Over 30 guys have made her pregnant", says another man, laughing. At least three male voices can be heard in the video boasting of the gang rape.

Besides the video, photographs were posted on the Internet showing the young woman's visibly wounded genitals. "They knocked her out, understand? Hahaha", wrote one man on Twitter in a post with a picture of the victim.

According to the police the video was made last Saturday (May 21) evening. The young woman had disappeared, but was found by a community agent and taken home on Wednesday (May 25).

The police have identified three men who allegedly took part in the attack. One of them lives in Cidade de Deus favela and another one in the neighbourhood of Santa Cruz, both in Rio's West side. The third man identified is alleged to have been responsible for posting the video on social media.
