Enquanto o BNDES tinha dificuldades para viabilizar o consórcio para a Embratel, Jerry de Martino, o representante da empresa norte-americana MCI, confirma com o ministro que vai participar do leilão. Numa conversa bem-humorada, os dois já deixam pré-agendada uma comemoração pela vitória da MCI na compra da Embratel, o que de fato aconteceu.

Secretária brasileira - I'm here. And Jerry... I think that Jerry de Martino wants to talk to the minister?
Secretária norte-americana - For the minister of the BNDES?
Secretária brasileira - No. The minister of Communications.
Secretária norte-americana - Ok. Hold on a second, please.
Secretária brasileira - Thank you.
Secretária norte-americana - You are welcome.
Secretária brasileira - Jerry?
Jerry de Martino - Yes.
Secretária brasileira - Hi Jerry. How are you?
Jerry - I'm fine. How're you doing?
Secretária brasileira - I'm fine. I'm here in the office of the president of the BNDES and I have the minister of Communications in front of me and he would like to talk to you.
Jerry - Good. Luiz Carlos!
Secretária brasileira - Oh, well, just hold on a minute. I'm gonna pass the telephone to him.
Jerry - Ok, good.
Luiz Carlos Mendonça de Barros - Alô?
Jerry - Hello, Luiz Carlos.
Mendonça - Jerry? How are you?
Jerry - Good.
Mendonça - I'm very happy.
Jerry - Me too.
Mendonça - (Risos.) No. I've said to (incompreensível) that it is very important for the Brazilian government to have the right companies bidding for the Telebrás companies Jerry - Right.
Mendonça - It's not just a matter of selling the companies to the private sector. But we are really worried, we are really looking for the future. In this sense it is very important to have competent companies here running the Brazilian companies.
Jerry - Ok.
Mendonça - And, of course, I received the information and this is... I'm very happy and I'm now on your side for the bidding tomorrow.
Jerry - Ok. And... and the injunction? We should not worry about it?
Mendonça - No. No, there is.. It is under control. Ok? We are aware and we are used to this kind of situation. The legal aspects are under control and I think that the auction tomorow will be maybe one hour delayed to get some clearing all the legal actions. But there are very, really, very, very few actions today
