The Brazilian federal police has located a girl in the Italian city of Cassola, who was taken illegally from the house of her adoptive parents in Cuiabá almost two years ago.
The Italian police assisted in the operation.
Ida Verônica Feliz, 10, was found with her biological parents, the Dominican Élida Isabel Feliz, 37, and the Italian Pablo Milano Escarfulleri, 46.
The couple are the prime suspects in the kidnapping.
Following criminal convictions in Brazil in 2007, they lost custody of Ida and her brother Pietro, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
Ida was born in the Dominican Republic and lived with her adoptive family from just three months old, when Daniele Siqueira found her abandoned in the Cuiabá hotel she worked at and brought her home.
Subsequently, the courts awarded the Siqueira family custody of the girl.
"We never lost hope that she would be found. We're going to do everything we can to bring her home," said Tarsila Gonçalina de Siqueira, Ida's adoptive mother.
However, the final decision now rests with the Italian courts.
Ida was abducted on April 26, 2013, when she had been living with adoptive family for nearly eight years. She was taken from the house at gunpoint by an armed man.
Several days later, the family received messages, not only from the kidnapper, who threatened to kill the girl if the police got involved, but also from Ida's biological mother, who told them that the child was already in Italy.
