In the midst of the country's economic and political crisis, the Chamber found time to discuss the regulation of female dress in the Chamber. The "dress code" targets plunging necklines and min iskirts.
Chamber First Secretary Beto Mansur (PRB-SP) said that he is preparing a proposal for regulation, with a focus on women, to present to the Chamber summit.
"Sometimes, there are excesses within the Chamber, that we all see, therefore we have to reduce these excesses", said Mansur. He refused to detail what the excesses actually are, but he said he said that they wouldn't be exactly shocking: "At 64, nothing shocks me anymore".
After presenting the proposal, the decision regarding whether the rules will be altered or not will fall on Table of the Chamber, composed of seven deputies and led by Eduardo Cunha (PMDB-RJ), who is an evangelist and defender of conservative positions in the area of traditions.

The idea to regulate women's necklines and miniskirts in the Chamber came from deputy Cristiane Brasil (PTB-RJ) and, according to Mansur, is supported by other deputies.
"We want to correct a historical error. We always fight for equality with men. The administration already determines what the men should wear but it doesn't provide anything in relation to women", said Cristiane Brasil-who is the daughter of former deputy Roberto Jefferson, condemned in the mensalão or Big Monthly Allowance scandal-at the time she presented the proposal.
Today the laws for men are more restrictive. On session days, a suit and tie are required in order to circulate the Green Room and the plenary, central areas for the Chamber of Deputies.
