FROM SÃO PAULO
The visual and structural changes on Folha's website are accompanied by another change that is invisible to readers: a new system for uploading articles, sections and specials onto the site.
Folha has a new publishing mechanism called 'Gutenberg'. The mechanism, which was fully developed by Folha, was elaborated in order to optimize the newsroom's workflow.

The editing of sections and the construction of websites is now done in a more automated form |
The name of the mechanism is a reference to Johannes Gutenberg, the German who created the printing press in the 15th century. His invention of movable type printing led many to later acknowledge him as the father of printing.
"Gutenberg' is conceptually different. It deals with various kinds of content and publishes them regardless of the platform in question", said Camila Marques, Folha's digital editor and one of the project leaders.
The goal is to streamline the newsroom's workflow while providing journalists with more time to do investigating and editing.
On top of publishing articles, Gutenberg will also be responsible for creating sites and editing sections.

This umbrella software program also includes an image processing system used for creating databases, photo galleries and editing pictures, while also organizing topics and information databases in connection with the places reviewed by the Folha Guide.
In the coming months, Gutenberg will also be in a position to start editing articles for the print edition.
"These applications were designed in accordance with the newsroom's needs, but the project is more ambitious than that and meets other demands that the company has as well", said Ana Beatriz Dea, one of Gutenberg's project managers.
