Navigatin app Waze launched this Tuesday (21) in São Paulo, a new ride-sharing app called Waze Carpool, charging no more than RS 25 (US$ 6.5) per ride.
The service is available all over the country and allows carpooling between people who take the same route to commute.
The minimum charge is R$ 4 (US$ 1) - equivalent to three traveled miles. Beyond that, the amount rises to R$ 10 (US$ 2.5), with a ceiling of 25 miles. After that, each kilometer is charged, with a maximum price of R$ 25 (US$ 6.5).
Users can only take or offer two rides per day and payment is exclusive by credit card.

During launch, Waze is offering a promotion of R$ 2 (US$ 0.5) per ride. Each new user can get a R$ 30 (US$ 7.5) bonus by driving or taking rides using referral codes from friends.
Waze Carpool's model is closer to ZipCar than Uber Pool, says the company, because it offers carpooling, not a car service. The app's main competitor is the lone driver, says Noam Bardin, Waze's CEO.
The Brazilian launch is strategic for the company, because the country is Waze's second biggest market, with four million monthly users. Brazilians are also one of the world's early adopters of new technology solutions.
