Folha went into the bleachers to hear what organized fan groups are singing at soccer games. Our reporters watched at least one game with each of the 20 A-Series Brazilian Championship teams. They witnessed the omnipresent homophobic insults, the incitement of violence and the fad of adapting famous songs into team pep-tunes.
"I'm not afraid to die. I really kick ass", recite Corinthian Fans in "Brew of the Hawks".
"Let's kill a pissed-off black-n-white. We'll finish off all of the police", sing Cruzeiro fans.
A song for Império Alviverde (Imperial Green&White) declares: "Lets beat them up". With "That Skull, When you Saw it, You Shut Up", referring to rival Atlético-PR, and even declares that "they'll feel the terror".
Members of the official Alviverde (Green&White) team fan club from Curitiba are suspected of having beaten a Corinthians fan on Sunday (the 18th), before the game between the two teams started.
Data regarding soccer violence reveals 49 confirmed deaths as a consequence of rivalry between fan groups between 2014 and 2016, according to sociologist Mauricio Murad. Seven others are still under investigation.
For experts, the link between the songs and scenarios of brutality doesn't always provoke real conflicts. But it is a reflection of the real scenario within Brazilian society, which registered 59,627 homicides in 2014, according to the Violence Map data source.
Representatives of these official fan clubs affirm that they don't incentivize aggressive music. They say that the same attitude and orientation is shared by groups from other clubs.
