SPECIAL ENVOYS TO TERESÓPOLIS
The Brazilian national team recovery after the embarrassing match against Germany will be harsh on the new coaching staff. Luiz Felipe Scolari, Carlos Alberto Parreira and the current management leave a scorched-earth scenario with little usable legacy.
Apart from Parreira, the coaching staff that worked with the coach at this World Cup was the same as 12 years ago, when Brazil was five-time winner.
Scolari did not innovate. The main strategy on the pitch, for example, was the overuse of long-range shots from the defender David Luiz to Neymar and Hulk.
Scolari opted to put the psychologist Regina Brandão as the protagonist of the campaign again, as in 2002. It didn't work out.
The new coaching staff will find an emotionally distressed group –the weeps in several situations marked the team's campaign at the World Cup.
AGING
According to Scolari, up to 15 players from this squad will be in the next World Cup, but it is an optimistic forecast. Despite having bet in a group with no experience in World Cups –only six out of the 23 players had already participated in the tournament -, the base is not formed by such young players.
Neymar is on the list for sure. Only a serious injury would stop him from playing the next World Cups.
Oscar, David Luiz, Marcelo, William, Bernard and Thiago Silva can dream with the possibility. However, their participation is doubtful.
Marcelo's presence is not unanimity because of his inefficient marking. Thiago Silva and David Luiz will be in their thirties, but, as defenders, if they are physically fit, they can still play.
Bernard and William are young, but may not have the skills to get there.
Paulinho, Ramires and Hernanes are older and did not perform well in this World Cup, and the midfielders have no chance.
In addition to the lack of legacy, the basic categories of the Brazilian team are not in good moment and there are no prospects for a consistent renewal.
The Coordinator Alexandre Gallo, very popular among CBF leaders, was Scolari's talent scout and is likely to be affected by the poor performance.
In 2013, the under-20 team lived an embarrassing moment during the South American Championship and could not even qualify for the category's World Cup. The under-17 team, on the other hand, was world's fourth last year, but they have not won this competition since 2003.
"We have good courses, a work being done by the CBF with the young coaches and managers of the basic categories that should be positive in the future", he said, Scolari, after all.
