Brazil´s foreign minister Luiz Alberto Figueiredo is due to meet with US national security adviser Susan Rice today to discuss the new National Security Agency (NSA) rules.
Rice called Figueiredo shortly before Barack Obama´s speech on proposed reforms for the agency. During the conversation she will give details of how the spying system is to be modified.
"I am going to Washington after an invitation from national security adviser Susan Rice to continue the dialogue once the internal assessment of the NSA is concluded. We will not be discussing a new date for President Dilma´s visit."
Dilma Roussef cancelled her State visit to Washington in October following revelations made by former NSA technician Edward Snowden that the US had spied on her.
The United States have already accepted to participate in a meeting on internet governance that the Brazilian government will hold in São Paulo in April.
Figueiredo is also due to meet with US trade representative Mike Froman.
On the agenda will be the opening of the US market for natural Brazilian meat, which is in its final negotiation stage, as well as halted US damages over the cotton dispute.
The minister may reveal that Brazil is getting ready to retaliate against the US, as planned by the World Trade Organization (WTO), if the situation is not reverted.
SPYING
Snowden, who is currently exiled in Russia, revealed details of the spying programs to the British and US media.
The NSA collected telephone and internet information from individuals, companies and world leaders, including President Dilma and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
