Weak Economy Will Be Bolsonaro's Legacy in 2023

The next president will face high interest, debt and inflation

São Paulo

Whoever assumes the presidency of Brazil in 2023, whether Jair Bolsonaro is re-elected or not, will have to deal with a legacy that includes the worsening of the internal business environment, the country's international image and the main indicators of the economy.

According to projections, practically the entire macroeconomic picture will be lower than the figures of the Michel Temer (MDB) administration.

It will be a scenario of higher interest rates, inflation, unemployment and debt, with a weaker level of activity, foreign investments and exchange rates.

Unemployment will rise from 11.6% to 12.2%.

For the director of the Independent Fiscal Institution, Felipe Salto, the hole in the spending ceiling harks back to the practices of the Dilma Rousseff (PT) government. "We are watching, strictly from this fiscal point of view, a rerun."
