Brasília

President Jair Bolsonaro (no party) said in his live on Thursday (11) that no one did anything wrong and that there was no waste of resources in the production of chloroquine tablets. He explained that, in addition to Covid-19, a disease for which the medicine there is no scientific proof of effect, there are other diseases treated with the substance, such as malaria and lupus.

Folha revealed that the Ministry of Health used Fiocruz (Fundação Oswaldo Cruz) to produce four million chloroquine tablets. Emergency public resources aimed for Covid-19 were used to fund the production of the tablets that were destined to patients with coronavirus.

Documents from the ministry obtained by Folha, dated 29 June and 6 October, show that Fiocruz produced chloroquine and also oseltamivir phosphate (Tamiflu) to treat Covid-19 patients. The two drugs are not effective against Covid-19, according to studies.
