Army Opens Disciplinary Proceedings against Pazuello for Participating in Political Act with Bolsonaro

Mourão shares his discomfort after participation of former minister who is an active general; Force establishes procedure, but avoids public disclosure

On the first business day after former minister Eduardo Pazuello participated in a political act standing next to President Jair Bolsonaro, the Army opened disciplinary proceedings against the active general.

The opening of the process was confirmed to Folha by members of the Force summit which pushes for compliance with the institution's regulations. On the other hand, bolsonaristas lean in favor of Pazuello, who shielded Bolsonaro by testifying at the Covid CPI.

Both the Ministry of Defense and the Army, however, ended up maintaining official silence about the strong evidence of disciplinary transgression. Now, Pazuello will have to present a written defense on the episode.

Pazuello went to the act with the seal of the President of the Republic, who, by the Constitution, exercises the supreme command of the Armed Forces, which increases the embarrassment.

Vice President Hamilton Mourão had already made his discomfort clear, in an interview early in the morning. At the time, he said Pazuello should be punished by the army.
