Two children are among the victims; there were at least 325 landslides in Petropolis

At least 104 people, including two children, died due to the strong storm that hit the city of Petrópolis on Tuesday afternoon (15), causing flash floods and landslides. By Wednesday afternoon, the Municipal Civil Defense recorded 325 occurrences of landslides. The teams are still working on rescues, as there is great difficulty to access some places. In total, 439 people are being housed in 33 public schools in the municipality. The state government also reported that 24 people were saved alive and that a field hospital with ten beds was set up to provide first aid.

The tragedy takes place in the same region where, 11 years ago, at least 918 people died in another summer storm, one of the country's biggest catastrophes.

According to the authorities, it rained this Tuesday in just six hours (260 mm), the equivalent of the last 30 days (272 mm), and it will rain more.
