The Speaker of the House Says that Big Techs Crossed All Limits in Brazil and Have Kept Congress from Legislating

'The pressure was horrible, inhuman and dishonest', said Arthur Lira the day after putting the voting on the issue on hold

The Speaker of the House, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), said this Wednesday (3) that big techs crossed all limits of prudence by promoting "inhuman" and "dishonest" pressure against federal congressmen and preventing the Fake News bill voting.

The congressman also said that he called the Chamber's legal team to look into the possibility of filing lawsuits against the platforms that have pressured the bill. "Big techs have crossed all limits of prudence. If we can compare, it's as if they had prevented the regular workings of a power. And, in comparative law, we are going to look for all the means to file a lawsuit, holding them accountable for the horrrible act that they have practiced in the lives of the congressmen in the matter's voting week", he told GloboNews.

The Speaker of the house also stated that he had received reports from parliamentarians who suffered physical threats through social networks – which will also be investigated by the House. "Using your instruments to boost, hinder or restrict the other party from moving, and then converging all the means that [the platforms] have, with the algorithms that have influence in the states. The pressure was horrible, inhuman and dishonest - that's the worst", said Lira. "If they had dealt with facts, there would have been no problem. But [the platforms] sold a totally distorted theme, meaning that the Congress was voting on a project that would censor, muzzle and take away freedom of expression. That's not what we defend, or will ever defend," he added.
