Minister Threatens to Raise Minimum 5G Auction Price If Telcos Do Not Make Private Network for Bolsonaro

Private network investment is a condition to allow Chinese Huawei equipment

Minister Fábio Faria (Communications) continues to pressure telephone operators to create a closed federal government network. He said he would raise the price of licenses at the 5G auction if companies oppose building the closed network.

The measure is one of the investment conditions imposed by the Jair Bolsonaro administration (no party). With its network, the government would not impose restrictions on Chinese Huawei equipment in 5G.

If the company says no to Bolsonaro's demand, Faria told operators that he would agree with Minister Paulo Guedes (Economy) and would defend an open auction - with high minimum bids—as a way to strengthen the Union's cash reserves.
