Crater along Marginal Tietê Highway Begins to Be Filled and The Central Lane Will Open in 10 Days

Rotation of vehicles and trucks in São Paulo remains suspended until Friday (4)

The consortium responsible for the construction of the orange line-6 of the subway began to fill the hole that opened on the Tietê waterfront, on Tuesday morning (1st), after the rupture of a sewage pipe. The concreting started at night and advanced during the dawn of this Wednesday (2). The rupture of the sewer pipe happened when the armadillos, the equipment responsible for excavating the subway tunnels, passed about three meters below. The sewage flooded the ventilation shaft of the work and caused part of the asphalt of the local road of the marginal, between the bridges of Piqueri and Freguesia do Ó, to give way. The cause is being investigated.

In an interview with TV Globo, Fábio Novaes, president of Concreserv, the company that is carrying out the concreting, explained that the material should stabilize the soil inside the crater, preventing erosion. After the stabilization of the soil and the ventilation shaft, the sewage must be drained, making it possible to repair the pipeline. Only then will the crater repair begin. According to Novaes, between 1,000 and 1,200 trucks of concrete will be needed to fill the hole in the waterfront.

The secretary of Metropolitan Transport, Paulo Galli, said this Wednesday, also in an interview with TV Globo, that he foresees the central lane of the Tietê marginal reopening in ten days. The express lane is still open and the local one is completely closed.
