Brazil Registers 338 New Deaths from Coronavirus; Total Is 4,543 Deaths

Number jumped up to 300 after a low on Sunday; confirmed cases reach 66 thousand

Brazil registered 338 new deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours and now has a total of 4,543 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health reported on Monday (27).

The number was once again above 300 new deaths daily - the record since the beginning of the pandemic was broken on Thursday (23), with 407 deaths, and the balance sheets for Friday and Saturday showed more than 300 deaths each. On Sunday, there were 189 new deaths, but the ministry itself has already said that the numbers for the weekend may be lower because of the reduction in staff.

In all, there are 66,501 confirmed cases - the day before, Brazil passed the milestone of 60 thousand cases, with 61,888 in total.

The actual number, however, should be higher due to underreporting and the tests that are still awaiting results. Folha's report showed that the Ministry of Health only processed half of the samples received, equivalent to 0.06% of the population.

São Paulo, the most populous state in the country, continues with the largest number of records, with 21,696 confirmed cases. Following are Rio de Janeiro, with 7,944, and Ceará, with 6,726.

São Paulo also leads in number of registered deaths. There are 1,825 in total. Rio de Janeiro registered 677 deaths due to Covid and, Pernambuco, 450.
