With 26,417 new cases of Covid-19, Brazil this Thursday (28) broke the record of new infections confirmed in a single day. The previous record had been last Friday (22), with 20,803 new cases. As a result, the total number of cases reached 438,238.

The country recorded 1,156 new deaths, the 3rd highest number of confirmations in 24 hours since the pandemic began. Brazil has a total of 26,754 killed by Covid-19.

On Wednesday, the country recorded 1,086 new deaths from coronavirus and 20,599 new cases, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

Representatives of the ministry, however, stress that Brazil is trending toward an increase in cases. Previously concentrated in capitals, Covid-19 records are also increasing in more cities, which shows a tendency to "interiorize" the epidemic.

Currently, Brazil is the second country with the most cases of the disease, according to Johns Hopkins University (USA). In absolute numbers, it is second only to the United States, which has 1.7 million cases.

In the number of deaths, Brazil is the sixth most affected country. The first five countries with the most deaths are the USA (101.5 thousand), the United Kingdom (37.9 thousand), Italy (33.1 thousand), France (28.6 thousand), and Spain (27.1 thousand).

The Ministry of Health, however, admits that the actual number of cases in Brazil tends to be higher, as there are still tests held in some places and the possibility of underreporting.
