The vice-governor of Amazonas, Carlos Almeida Filho (no party), says that the alignment of Wilson Lima (PSC) with Jair Bolsonaro in the pandemic turned Manaus into a scientific laboratory for the new strain of Covid-19, which killed thousands of people.
Almeida Filho broke with Lima a year ago, and he tells Folha that the former ally brought the herd immunity policy to the state. President Bolsononaro defended this thesis that widespread contamination would prevent bad measures for the economy.
"When there was involvement of the governor in the operation [of the Federal Police], the strategy was to show alignment [with Bolsonaro]. One thing was clear, the policy was to affirm that there was a herd immunity. What ended up happening was a laboratory, P1 found a suitable environment," he says.
Almeida Filho states that the oxygen crisis at the beginning of the year was the responsibility of Lima, who only called the federal government when the scenario had already devastated the land. The vice states that the company White Martins warned in advance about the “breach” in the supply of the input to treat patients.
