Brazilian Model Dies after Gale Hits Boat in Ilhabela

The family of Caroline Bittencourt, 37, identified the body found in Ilhabela along the north São Paulo coast, as being the of the model, according to the São Sebastião Port Authority.

She was missing since Sunday afternoon (28), when the boat that she was on with her husband, businessman Jorge Sestini,  overturned. Sestini was found alive two hours after the accident. Caroline’s body was found in the afternoon 4 kilometers from where the boat overturned. 

The Port Authority said that the couple was traveling from Ilhabela to São Sebastião when it was surprised by a gale wind during a storm. 

According to the city of Ilhabela, the winds reached almost 80 km / h, which caused the fall of more than 300 trees, besides floods and landslides. Estrada de los Castelhanos continued to be banned this Monday (29), as well as the lack of light in some points.

The police said the model and the businessman left Ilhabela around 16:40. At one stretch of the crossing, the model fell into the sea. People close to her husband reported  that Sestini jumped to try to rescue her.

The agent of the model, Andréia Boneti, said that Caroline jumped into the sea to rescue her dog Canjica and Sestini tried to save the woman.

The Port authority said that the searches used four boats, two  Navy and two of the Firemen.

Caroline Bittencourt was born in São Paulo and worked as a model and television presenter, having worked for RedeTV! and Record TV.

In Italy, she paraded for designers such as Valentino Garavani and Roberto Cavalli.

She became known in Brazil in 2005, when she was expelled from the marriage of former player Ronaldo and model Daniella Cicarelli at the Château de Chantilly in France.

Before marrying Sestini, she had a five-year relationship with businessman Alvaro Garnero.

Caroline leaves a daughter, Isabelle Bittencourt, 16, also model.
