Brazil's Supreme Court President Suspends Investigations into Bolsonaro's Son Flávio

Toffoli froze investigations using financial data at the request of the Senator

Brasília and Rio de Janeiro

Supreme Court President Dias Toffoli suspended criminal investigations that use detailed financial data from government entities without judicial authorization, at the request of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PSL-RJ).

The decision paralyzes the investigation by the Rio Public Prosecutor's Office into the son of President Jair Bolsonaro, which began by attaining Flávio's bank information.

A report from the board detected unusual movements of R$ 1.2 million in the accounts of Fabrizio Queiroz, a former advisor to Flávio. The senator had already tried to stop the investigation by appealing to the Supreme Court. But his requests were denied.

Toffoli's decision also affects investigation at all court levels and has the potential to affect cases involving corruption and laundering, such as Lava Jato, and drug trafficking.

Flávio's lawyer, Frederick Wassef, told Folha that the president of the Supreme Court "only complied with the law and did justice."
