Santos and São Paulo

Heavy rains that hit Baixada Santista between Monday night (2) and yesterday left less than 19 dead, 29 missing, landslides, and much damage.

Guarujá counted 15 dead, including a fireman, who was buried in Morro do Macaco Molhado while trying to save a mother and baby. Another soldier was also buried on the hillside and is still missing. At least 200 people are homeless in the city.

It rained 282 mm in 12 hours, in Guarujá—as much as expected for the entire month of March.

"We will have rain until Thursday. So, people should accept the guidelines and leave their houses," said Governor João Doria (PSDB), who was shocked by the volume of landslides.
