Supreme Court Justice Lewandowski Suspends the Last Active Case against Lula

The former president and his son had become defendants in the Operation Zelotes lawsuit in 2016

Supreme Court Justice Ricardo Lewandowski suspended the criminal case in which former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) became a defendant in 2016 in Operation Zelotes. The case was being processed in the Federal Court in the Federal District and, in addition to Lula, Luis Cláudio Lula da Silva, his youngest son, had also become a defendant. It was the last criminal case against the PT that had not yet been suspended, locked, annulled or that had not been acquitted by Justice.

The minister decided to accept the defense's arguments, which used as evidence the messages exchanged between prosecutors obtained by hackers and, later, seized in the Federal Police's Operation Spoofing. The case became known as Vaza Jato. According to Lewandowski, "the Federal prosecutors responsible for the complaint regarding the purchase of the Swedish fighter jets acted in concert with the members of the 'Lava Jato' of Curitiba, through the Telegram application, to weave, apparently, in an artificial way, the accusation against the claimant [Lula]".
