Bolsonaro Invites Foreign Rulers to September 7th Celebration under The Shadow of A Coup

President announces military parades in Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro on Independence Day

Brasília

The Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) government invited the heads of state of Portugal, Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste to the 7th of September festivities in Brasília.

Interlocutors have told Folha that the Portuguese president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, has already communicated that he intends to attend.

This year's September 7th holiday marks the 200th anniversary of Brazil's Independence. In recent public statements, the president has indicated that he plans to transform the festivities into Bolsonarist acts.

The celebrations in the federal capital should have the participation of 4,500 soldiers in a parade on the Esplanada dos Ministérios (in Brasilia), a similar number to those of previous years.

This Saturday (30), during the convention that launched former minister Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) as a candidate for the Government of São Paulo, Bolsonaro announced an innovation to celebrate the date: an official military parade in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro.

On the date, Bolsonaro will be in Brasília in the morning, as dictated by tradition, and later in the day, he will go to Rio de Janeiro.

"I know that you [Paulistas] wanted [the act to be] here [in SP]. We want to innovate in Rio. For the first time, our Armed Forces and auxiliary forces will be parading on Copacabana beach", he said.

On other occasions, Bolsonaro has stated that the celebrations of the Bicentennial of the Independence would show that he is the only candidate for the presidency with great popular support.
