Bolsonaro Reduces Advantage from Lula in Presidential Race

Datafolha points out a margin drop from 21 to 15 points in three months

The first survey carried out by Datafolha after the official start of the electoral campaign shows that President Jair Bolsonaro has reduced the advantage of former President Lula by three points.

Since the survey on July 27 and 28, the president has gone from 29% to 32% in the voters' preference, and the PT candidate has remained stable, with 47%. Thus, the difference went from 18 to 15 points. In May, it was 21.

Ciro Gomes comes in third, with 7% (it fluctuated one point down), and Simone Tebet remained with 2%, the same level as those of the voters who declared themselves undecided. 45 days before the elections, 6% say they will vote for none of the above or annul their vote.

Lula has 51% of the valid votes, and the majority would seal the election on October 2nd. He would win by 54% to 37% in case of a second round. Datafolha heard 5,744 people on the 16th, 17th, and 18th.

Bolsonaro gained ground with the evangelical electorate, which represents 1 in 4 people in the sample, and rose from 43% to 49%, compared to 32% for Lula. By June, the two were technically tied in this sector.
