In his first speech after being elected president, Lula thanked everyone who voted in the election and promised to find a way for the country to regain its peace and be able to once again live democratically.
The PT leader spoke in dialogue with Congress and the Judiciary.
Lula asked for respect for the Constitution and said it was time to lay down arms, that the green-and-yellow flag has no owner and that he will need the help of everyone from politics, the press, and society to govern the country.
The elected official declared that everyone will have to find a way so that Brazil can live harmoniously again.
"The election brought face-to-face two opposing projects that today have a single big winner: the Brazilian people. This is not a victory for me, for the PT (Workers' Party), or for the parties that supported me in this campaign. It is the victory of an immense democratic movement," Lula said.
He also said that he intends to resume dialogue with governors and mayors so that priorities for the country's population can be defined together.
