The coordinator of the transitional government's technical groups, former Minister Aloizio Mercadante (PT), denied this Thursday (17) that there have been delays and difficulties in defining the composition of the collegiate responsible for the Defense area, a sector that was strongly associated with Bolsonarism.

He said that the definition will take place after the return of president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who has traveled to Egypt to participate in the COP27. On the other hand, Mercadante acknowledged that there is an "institutional issue" related to the Armed Forces.

At one point, it was considered the creation of a single working group for Defense and Intelligence. However, the assessment is that there will be two separate teams. They are the only ones that have not yet had their coordinators and other members defined.

The transitional government has already announced 30 technical groups and over 300 people who will integrate Lula's team, whether in coordination, in the working groups, or in the political council.

"From the Defense working group [technical group], I think we're going to have an excellent composition, but we will only bang the gavel on the decisions with the participation of the president [Lula]. As the president is currently traveling and had commitments, a very busy schedule, with a lot going on and an extraordinary repercussion of his speech, we have decided to wait. It makes no difference," he said in an interview with journalists at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, headquarters of the transitional government.
