Bolsonarist Suspected of a Bombing Attempt in Brasilia Surrenders to Police

Alan Diego Rodrigues was on the run since the beginning of the operation against vandalism in Brasilia

Cuiabá and Brasília

Bolsonarist Alan Diego Rodrigues, suspected of having participated in the attempted bomb attack near Brasília Airport on December 24, surrendered to the police this Tuesday (17). Alan Diego turned himself in at the Civil Police department in the city of Comodoro, in Mato Grosso. He had been on the run since December 29, when Operation Nero was launched. In this investigation, the Federal Police and the Civil Police of the Federal District found evidence of the participation of former President Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) supporter also in the attempt to invade the Federal Police building and subsequent acts of vandalism in different areas of Brasília.

Alan turned himself in after the family negotiated with the police, who had searched two rural properties and one of the suspect's residences. According to police chief Ricardo Marques Sarto, responsible for the arrest, the conversations started last week, after searches were carried out in a rural area. "We were able to establish contact with a local person who, in theory, would have contact with Alan Diego. And in the face of some arguments and exposition of some facts, we managed to get him to surrender", he said.

Alan Diego reported to the police by himself, without a lawyer. Judge Leila Cury, from the Federal District’s Criminal Execution Court, authorized the transfer of the prisoner to Brasília – he will undergo a custody hearing via videoconference.

The Bolsonarist became a police target after George Washington Souza, 54, arrested on December 24 as a suspect of masterminding the bomb attack, reported in a statement to the police that Alan Diego would be his assistant. Washington went to the Bolsonarist camp at the Army HQ on Friday (23) and left the artifact "already set" with Alan. The explosive was installed in a fuel truck loaded with 60,000 liters of jet fuel.
