5G Auction Application Benefits Sectors Allied to Bolsonaro

Expected investments favor the military, farmers and truck drivers

Brasília

The government used the 5G auction application to respond to requests from sectors that support it and convinced the Ministry of Communications to direct investment counterparts so that the winners of the event serve mainly the military, farmers and truck drivers.

This group will have public policies defined to take the mobile broadband internet to the countryside, roads and inhospitable regions of the Amazon by 2028, starting from July next year.

According to the bidding rules approved by the National Telecommunications Agency, these investments will be deducted from the grant prices, which were evaluated by the agency's technicians at R $ 35 billion. All counterparts are around R$ 32 billion.

In other words: the Union will receive between R$ 3 billion and R$ 3.5 billion for licenses in the auction. The remainder should be invested by the telecommunications companies in the various obligations linked to each frequency band acquired.

In the public notice, the rights to operate four frequency bands will be sold: 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz, 3.5 GHz (specifically for 5G) and 26 GHz. Each frequency was divided into blocks.

The auction is scheduled to take place in July.
