Musician Attacked with Eggs while Playing in The Street Wins Scholarship

Cellist Luiz Felipe Almeida will be able to take a course at a private college

Musician Luiz Felipe Salinas Almeida, 20, was attacked with eggs last week while performing on a street in Santos, São Paulo, and now he has won a full scholarship to study music at a private university.

Luiz Felipe often plays the cello on the streets of different states of the country, an activity he depends on to support himself. So he was surprised when he heard a loud noise on the instrument.

When he looked at his cello, he realized it was smeared with eggs. He didn't see who attacked him, but said he believed the egg was thrown from a building.

"Everyone was angry. Those who passed by stopped, became indignant. I was embarrassed, but I also didn't feel that I deserved to cry or curse, I just kept playing."

A friend posted a video on social media telling what happened, and the case went viral.

The dean of the Metropolitan University of Santos, Renata Viegas, watched a report about Luiz Felipe and decided to offer the musician a full scholarship.
