Meet the Brazilian Designer of the 'The White Lotus' Opening Credits

Lezio Lopes is from Ceará, lives in Australia, and had his work discovered on the internet

Those who watch the series "The White Lotus" are immediately seduced by the opening credits that mix figurative elements with instrumental music. Because of this, the vignettes that opened both the first and second seasons are often praised by viewers on social networks. What few people know is that the person responsible for the arts is Brazilian designer Lezio Lopes. Born in Ceará, he lives in Australia, where he moved in 2020, shortly before the Covid-19 pandemic to work as a freelancer.

The opportunity to work for the series came about through the internet. With the country entering lockdown, Lopes focused on publicizing his work. That's when the creative studio Plains of Yonder, responsible for the opening credits, noticed his works on Instagram.

With four months to produce the illustrations, plus previous preparation to study and practice the strokes, the Brazilian was inspired for the second season by fresco paintings from the Italian Renaissance (a technique for painting plaster walls or ceilings that are still damp). Despite the creative direction being the studio's, Lopes claims that he was free to think about the prints and illustrations for the two seasons and, therefore, added elements of his own taste.
