Carnaval Draws Crowds with Hits and Pro-Lula Demonstrations

Pre-Carnaval celebrations gear up with heavyweight artists on the streets and an engaged public

The pre-Carnival parties in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro were marked by large crowds in the streets and political demonstrations. The celebrations take place a week before the start of Carnival.

The victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the presidential elections over Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was remembered in statements by partygoers and celebrated with shouts in moments of collective exaltation on Sunday in São Paulo.

Equally celebrated, the vaccine against Covid-19 was pointed out by many as largely responsible for the return of the Carnaval parades to the city, interrupted for the last two years because of the pandemic.
