Brazil Has 67 New Deaths from Coronavirus; Total Deaths Is 553

There are 12,056 confirmed cases of Covid-19, but real numbers tend to be higher due to underreporting

Brasília

At least 553 people have died from the new coronavirus in Brazil, according to data from the Ministry of Health released on Monday (6). Sixty-seven new deaths were reported in the past 24 hours.

According to the balance sheet, the country has 12,056 confirmed cases of the disease. The previous day, there were 11,130 cases.

The ministry, however, has reported that the actual number of cases tends to be higher, since only severe cases of patients admitted to hospitals are tested, and there are cases still waiting for confirmation.

Folha's article reported that underreporting to the Ministry of Health of suspected cases has been gigantic. Without a specific ordinance from the ministry, doctors have been guided by local technical notes with different orientations.

São Paulo remains the state most affected by the novel coronavirus. The number of confirmed cases rose to 4,866 — 4,620, according to the previous balance. Deaths went from 275 to 304. Rio de Janeiro followed, with 1,461 cases and 71 deaths. Pernambuco overtook Ceará and is now the third with the highest number of fatalities, with 30. The state also has 223 confirmed cases. Ceará has 1013 cases and 29 deaths.

Acre and Tocantins are the only states that did not register deaths due to the virus.
