With 598 New Deaths from Covid-19, Brazil Exceeds 43,000 Deaths

Data related to the novel coronavirus tend to be lower on weekends and holidays

This Sunday (14), Brazil registered 598 new deaths from the novel coronavirus and 17,086 new cases of the virus. Since the beginning of the pandemic in February, the country has lost 43,389 lives through Covid-19 and adds up to 867,882 officially registered cases - specialists say there is massive underreporting.

The data on deaths and cases of Covid-19 is the result of an unprecedented collaboration between Folha, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo, G1, and UOL to gather and report numbers on the new coronavirus, which are collected directly with the Secretariats of health.

On holidays and weekends, the numbers are usually lower, as many teams responsible for notification have a reduced scale. Rio Grande do Norte did not present data related to the state.

São Paulo concentrates the largest share of new deaths and cases. In the last 24h, there were 113 new Covid-19 deaths and 5,327 cases. Altogether, the state has 10,694 deaths and 178,202 cases. Since the beginning of the month, the São Paulo quarantine has been relaxed by Governor João Doria (PSDB).
