Vice President Hamilton Mourão, President of the National Council for the Legal Amazon, said on Tuesday (3) that Jair Bolsonaro's environmental policy, which is under the responsibility of Minister Ricardo Salles, will not change regardless of the outcome of the presidential dispute in the United States.

"The Environmental policy will not change, regardless of what will happen in the United States. The ball follows," said Mourão in an interview with journalists, after the third meeting of the Amazon Council, which is responsible for the execution of the GLO (law and order guarantee) decreed for the Amazon region.

In practice, the GLO militarized the enforcement of environmental crimes in the region.

"I am not the Minister of the Environment. The Amazon problem is an item in the environmental issue," said the vice president.

The vice president admitted that he "would have liked a better result" in combating deforestation. "We have not succeeded so far. But we will persist."

He pointed out the existence of "red" areas, with increased deforestation, such as the Belo Monte plant region, in Pará.
