Brazilian Women's Artistic Gymnastics Team Repeats Beijing-2008's Eighth Position

Brazil, with errors in the balance beam and in the floor, could not beat its best score in a women's artistic gymnastics team final on Tuesday (9).

The Brazilian team finished in eighth place, as it did at Beijing-2008. Only eight teams are in the final.

At the last Olympics Games, in London 2012, the Brazilian women's artistic gymnastics team didn't make it to the final.

"If mistakes had not happened for sure we could have finished in fourth or fifth place," said Jade Barbosa after the final.

In the qualifying round, the Brazilian women´s team finished in fifth position.

To athlete Rebecca Andrade, 17, who was doing a good floor presentation, but ended up falling in the last movement, the team was expected to get a better place, but the result, for them, was very positive.

"We have to celebrate. It doesn't matter we were fifth in the qualifying round" Rebecca said.

The American team, led by the exceptional Simone Biles, won the gold medal, followed by Russia and China.

If Jade says she is staying, on Tuesday (9) the experienced gymnast Daniele Hypolito, 31, practically said goodbye to the upcoming Olympic competitions.

"I should I stay in Gymnastics for another year, but I probably won't be in the next Olympics," she said.

The Olympics, however, will continue for some Brazilian gymnasts. Rebecca Andrade and Jade Barbosa must compete in the all-around final, in which the athletes perform on all apparatuses.

Flavia Saraiva will dispute the women's beam final, her specialty. She was third in the classification stage.
