Bolsonaro Considered Bringing Back the Ministry of Public Security

The return of the ministry would decrease Sergio Moros power

São Paulo

President Jair Bolsonaro is considering bringing back the Ministry of Public Security, which merged with the Ministry of Justice under the authority of Sergio Moro. Bolsonaro mentioned the possible move at a meeting at the National Council for Public Security.

According to the president, state secretaries pled for the return of the ministry, which merged with the Ministry of Justice in 2019.

The topic, however, was not on the agenda of the secretaries' meeting before their meeting with Bolsonaro.

The Federal District Security Secretary visited the Planalto and brought the matter to his peers. Only then did it appear on the meeting's agenda.

If the ministry resurfaces, Moro will lose power over agencies like the Federal Police.

The Federal police follows up on investigations into Flávio Bolsonaro and the murder of councilwoman Marielle Franco. Also, Moro would not be able to point to the falling homicides in the country as a result of his ministry.

Jair Bolsonaro would have seen in the minister's interview with TV Cultura, on Monday (20), the behavior of candidate for president, and not subordinate.
