GDP Rises 0.4% in The 3rd Quarter but Loses Pace

Even with a slowdown in Brazil's Gross Domestic Product, economic activity reaches a record in the series that started in 1996, says IBGE

Brazil's GDP (Gross Domestic Product) increased by 0.4% in the third quarter of this year, in comparison with the previous three months, the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) informed this Thursday (1st)

The result is the fifth positive in a row but represents a loss of pace in economic activity in a scenario of high-interest rates and a global slowdown.

In the view of analysts, the shorter breath should continue in the fourth quarter. Thus, GDP tends to be closer to stagnation (0%) or even negative in the last three months of the year.

The 0.4% variation was below financial market expectations. Analysts consulted by the Bloomberg agency projected an increase of 0.6% in the median. Even with the performance below expectations, the GDP reached the highest level in the historical series that started in 1996.
