Born in Juazeiro, Bahia, Luiz Galvão graduated in agronomy, an area he worked in for years before meeting the musician Salvador Moraes Moreira, who died in 2020, and Paulinho Boca de Cantor. A supporter of Vasco, he also played professional football in his hometown.

Galvão and Moreira lived in the same boarding house in the capital of Bahia, where they created the Novos Baianos, one of the most important and creative musical groups in the history of Brazilian music. The band later incorporated Pepeu Gomes and Baby do Brazil, who, at the time, went by the name of Baby Consuelo.
