In the course of his celebrated career, Oscar Niemeyer left his mark on works spread across Brazilian cities. Among houses, memorials, and churches, some are still under construction ten years after his death, completed this Monday. This is the case of the Cristo Rei cathedral, the last work by the architect designed for Belo Horizonte.
In the north of the capital of Minas Gerais, the project was designed at the request of the Archdiocese of the city. Construction is expected to take between five and eight years, depending on fundraising.
In addition to the temple, it foresees the creation of a museum, administrative offices, a theater with a capacity for 800 people, a square, and a space for solidarity sheltering, aimed at serving the needy population.
